Certified instructors are key to Mental Health First Aid® in communities across the nation. Instructors are certified to teach the eight-hour course for the Core and/or Youth programs.
Instructor candidates attend a five-day training that prepares them to facilitate the eight-hour program. Instructor training starts with a model of the eight-hour course. Instructor candidates then spend time more closely with the curriculum, learning how to teach the course with fidelity as well as tailoring it to a variety of audiences. Instructor candidates must pass a written exam and evaluation of their ability to deliver the eight-hour course.
Instructor training is offered for both the Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid programs. Many instructors are certified to teach both courses, and MHFA Maryland offers an expedited dual certification process to current instructors in good standing.
